Bake Sale, Cake Stall, whatever you call them, they are a popular fete staple. They are often a good fundraiser too, as the ingredients or baked items are often donated, leaving you to a healthy chunk of the profits!
While we are sure we all have our heads around how to run one, here are a few tips to ‘level up’ in the presentation stakes. And an opportunity outside your school fete that you may not have thought of yet….
Lots of foot traffic is essential for a successful cake stall fundraiser. Not having a fete? Other than major events and festivals, there are plenty of local options:
Bunnings isn’t just about Sausage Sizzles Contact your local activities co-ordinator and you may be able to have a stall near the entrance on a busy Saturday. You’ll be able to take advantage of the hungry people milling around eating their Sausage Sizzles – and be sold out by lunch time!
Local markets Farmers’ markets, craft markets, or weekend produce stalls are a great match for homemade cakes. Many markets welcome community groups and charge a small site fee (or waive it for fundraisers).
Sporting events Netball courts, football ovals, or cricket grounds can have hundreds of spectators each weekend. A cake stall next to the canteen or entrance gate is guaranteed attention.
School drop-off and pick-up Set up a small table outside the school gates on a Friday afternoon. Parents can grab a weekend treat without a special trip.
Shopping centre entrances Many local shopping centres have community tables for free or at low cost. Ask about setting up near a supermarket entrance where the foot traffic is constant.
Council community days Check your local council’s events calendar for free movie nights, park openings, or other community celebrations where you can piggyback on the crowd.
These are just a few ideas to get you thinking for your next Cake Stall. Happy Baking!
