Leap Day

Celebrating February 29, or Leap Day, with a fundraiser is a unique opportunity to engage your community and support a good cause. Here are several fundraising ideas that specifically play into the novelty and rarity of Leap Day:

Leap for a Cause: Organise a sponsored leap-themed event, such as a leapfrog contest, long jump, or triple jump competition. Participants can get sponsors to pledge a certain amount of money for every leap they make or for every foot they jump.

Leap Year Time Capsule: Sell tickets to contribute items or messages to a time capsule that will be opened the next Leap Year. This could be a fun way for people to leave messages for the future or to speculate on what the next four years might bring. And as you get to open it up in just 4 years time it's a bit more exciting!

29-Hour Livestream: Host a 29-hour live stream featuring various activities, performances, and guest speakers. Viewers can donate to keep the stream going, request shoutouts, or vote on what they want to see next. This could be particularly engaging if aligned with your cause, showcasing the impact of donations in real-time.

Exclusive Leap Day Merchandise: Create and sell Leap Day-themed merchandise, such as t-shirts, mugs, or calendars, with profits going to your cause. This could include fun slogans about the rarity of Leap Day or designs that celebrate an extra day in the year.

Leap Day Challenge: Encourage supporters to take on a 29-day challenge leading up to Leap Day, such as running a certain distance every day, giving up a luxury, or performing daily acts of kindness. Participants can raise funds by asking for pledges based on their commitment to completing the challenge.

"Extra Day, Extra Give" Campaign: Use the concept of an "extra" day to encourage people to give something extra to those in need. This could be a donation drive for goods, a day of volunteering, or financial donations, with the aim of making a significant impact in a single day.

Leap Year Birthday Bash: Host a special event for those who have a Leap Day birthday. Since their birthdays only come around once every four years, make it a big celebration with tickets or donations going to your cause. This can include games, cake, music, and more, all celebrating the leap year babies.

Historical Leap Day Party: Organise a themed party or dinner that celebrates events or famous individuals born on Leap Day. Charge for entry, and include educational content about Leap Day's historical and cultural significance.

"Take a Leap" Adventure Challenges: Offer adventurous activities like bungee jumping, skydiving, or zip-lining, where participants can raise funds by getting sponsors for their daring leap. This plays directly into the theme and offers a memorable experience for participants.

Online Auction or Raffle: Host an online auction or raffle with unique items or experiences that are only available during Leap Year. This can generate excitement and exclusivity, encouraging higher bids and donations.

As always, leveraging social media and online fundraising platforms can help to maximise reach and engagement. Also be sure to clearly communicate how the funds raised will be used to support your cause, adding an extra layer of motivation for participants and donors.
